It seems that the more vocal I get about my fitness goals
the more people I have asking me what I am doing to lose weight and tone up.
Here at FHAF we all know what I am doing to lose the weight. I blog about the
highlights often, but rarely do I put up here what I eat exactly and how much I
eat.
I am a huge calorie counter. Some people find it
tedious and/or don’t have the discipline to log everything they eat. For me,
calorie counting is a way for me to stay in control of my portions and
manipulate my diet for whatever I am trying to achieve (i.e. muscle mass). It
also helps me learn about the nutritional value of foods and how to prepare for
bigger calorie counts I might have down the line. Meaning if I have a get
together on Saturday, I can pretty much “budget” for the event all week long so
that I do not undo everything I did during the week. ßThis is very common when
trying to lose weight.
One tool that I use on a regular basis is Myfitnesspal.com.
I know I've written about this calorie counting website in the past, but I want
to show you a screenshot of what my typical days look like. This is today…
I eat about 5-6 times a day. I don’t really have a set
breakfast, dinner and lunch. As you can see some of my snacks have more
calories than my “lunch.” Having this type of record also helps me with meal
ideas. Sometimes, I have a brain fart and forget my go-to-meals, snack and “desserts.”
Haven’t you ever made a certain recipe and then forgot about that recipe? Then
years later you find the note card that it is written on and then wonder, “Why
did I stop making this?” Well having my food logged in helps me not forget and
with my HORRIBLE memory this comes in handy A LOT!
I also wanted to point out the daily summary that is part of
Myfitnesspal.com. It is at the bottom of the food log and if used properly
losing weight becomes pretty easy.
So if you see in the black below the calorie summary it
shows that I have burned 527 extra calories today. These calories will be
burned tonight with my kickboxing and running. Since I work out so late in the
day, I log in my workout calories earlier in the day. This allows me to eat an
adequate amount of calories throughout the day to sustain my workouts.
One more thing, if you notice for snack one I have listed a
bunch of vegetables and fruit with an NB behind it. This is my Nutribullet
shake of the day J
Yes, I even count those!
